Hey everyone,
Trying to decide between the Four Seasons and the Montage for an upcoming Maui trip. Is one way better than the other, or is there a hidden gem resort I should consider?
Thanks for the help!

I’m a fan of Wailea! Great beaches and restaurants there. Four Seasons is the nicest to me. Andaz is also really nice if you’re into good food, plus it’s got a stylish vibe. Fairmont is all suites, which is awesome, though it’s a huge property.
Just know that Road to Hana can feel super remote. You’re kinda out there with fewer options.
I’ll be staying at both soon. Four Seasons has construction going on, but maybe it’ll wrap up by March. Andaz might be the best choice if you’re looking for great food, based on my clients’ feedback.
Fairmont Kea Lani is a great choice! Expect about $1k a night, but upgrades are common, and the staff is awesome.
I like the Four Seasons, but honestly, it’s feeling a bit outdated. It’s under construction now, so maybe they’re refreshing it. Andaz food is fantastic for a hotel, even their breakfast is solid. But the rooms are smaller.
Another option could be Four Seasons Sensei Lanai. Just a short ferry ride from Maui, but it’s a beautiful property. A good choice if you want something extra special, maybe for a night or two.
My wife runs Scouted Travel (https://scoutedtravelco.com/) and if you have specific dates and properties in mind, she can help you book with perks like early check-in/late check-out, dining credits, and upgrades for free since hotels cover her fees. Or, you can use her booking platform: Virtual Reservations Desk — SCOUTED. Just ping me for the password if you’re interested.
I lived in Maui for a while. Ritz Carlton Kapalua or Honua Kai in Kaanapali are both nice options to consider.
I just got back from the Montage recently! Here’s my review if it helps: Montage Review
The resorts have different vibes. Who’s going with you and what do you want to do?
Just my husband and me! It’s her first time to Hawaii, so we’re just hoping to relax and do all the classic activities. No kids, we’re in our late 20s to early 30s.
Got it! If it’s your first time, I’d lean towards the Wailea side. Andaz might be a good choice over Four Seasons, especially with the construction there.
Sounds good! We’re looking at early March.
Andaz for sure!
What’s so special about it? I noticed it’s rated 4 stars, not 5 like the others.
Location is great and has a good beach area. The lobby is beautiful, and they offer free activities like kayaking and snorkeling. It’s also within walking distance of Wailea, plus they offer free rides to certain spots. The breakfast buffet is great!
We actually walked from Andaz to Four Seasons along the beach path just to check it out. Four Seasons felt more crowded and not as special. We were really happy with Andaz.
That’s awesome, thanks for the details!
Oh, and the Four Seasons pool area is a bit small, and the beach isn’t as nice. Andaz has several pools to pick from and fantastic service. We were there during the Maui fires, and the staff was so helpful.
Totally convinced! Booking for March now. Just curious, do you know how to set reminders on the forum? Like for next April when we plan our next trip?
You’re gonna love Andaz! At check-in, they give you a schedule of free activities, so sign up right away, as things like the outrigger tour fill up fast.
If you’re planning to do the Road to Hana, their driver can take you to the car rental. They’ll also provide a detailed map. The room service is amazing too—they bring snacks and drinks to your room every day. We snorkeled daily and even saw turtles!
Oh, and let them know if you’re celebrating anything. You’ll probably get a bottle of wine or champagne!
Haha, we’ll say we’re celebrating “life” and see what happens
