What to do in Cabo or La Paz for one or two days… Any suggestions?

I’m planning a trip with my mom on Uncruise and need ideas for things we can do together before or after the boat trip. We want activities that don’t overlap with our cruise schedule.

My mom prefers simple experiences, and I’m into more refined, non-generic activities. Lounging at a fancy spa isn’t our thing—it would make her uncomfortable, and I’d find it too boring.

Here’s what we’re thinking so far:

  • Staying at an Airbnb near Flora Farms for a farm tour, meal, or any fun activities they offer.
  • A half-day trip to Todos Santos for lunch and a walk. Is it worth the trip? Any recommendations?
  • We also need to get to La Paz for the cruise. Any must-see or must-do things there?

We’re open to cooking classes, guided tours, ebike tours, or anything unique and fun. Thanks in advance!

You should definitely check out Todos Santos. It’s a nice drive and a good way to spend half a day.

When are you planning the trip?

Early February.

Perfect timing! That’s whale-watching season, and Cabo is one of the best places to see whales breaching. Also, La Paz is great for swimming with whale sharks that time of year. It’s a chill and easy activity—super fun too. You’d both love it!

Wow, swimming with whale sharks sounds amazing! I’ll check if it’s part of the cruise, and if not, I’ll definitely look into it. Thanks!

No problem! If you go, you can either join a small group tour or rent a private boat. We did the private option since we had kids with us, and it gave us more chances to swim with the whale sharks.

I’d suggest flying into SJD, renting a car, and doing a one-way drive to La Paz, maybe with a night in Todos Santos. You can drop the car off in La Paz for convenience. Todos Santos has a mix of places to stay, from resorts to in-town options. If you’re looking for something more relaxed, your mom might prefer the tented cabins at Villa Santa Cruz or the newly opened Hotel Todos Santos, both of which offer a cool experience. You could also grab a drink at the Green Room near Villa Santa Cruz for a great sunset view. It’s a fun area to explore.

If you’re into active stuff, you can hike, bike, or even surf. There’s a neat little old mining town, El Triunfo, on the way to La Paz that’s worth a quick stop. And in La Paz, walking the Malecon (the boardwalk) is a great way to soak up the local vibe. For whale sharks, try a tour off the coast. Even though you’ll be on a boat for the cruise, this one’s a bit different!

Hope this helps! Let me know if you’ve got any other questions.

Thanks for all the tips! We’re going in early February. Do you know of any car rental companies that deliver and pick up the car from the cruise terminal? It’d save us the hassle of finding a ride to the rental place.

Also, it’s not really about the cost for my mom; she just doesn’t like places that feel overly fancy or pretentious. I’m paying for everything, so I just want to make sure she feels comfortable, and I want to avoid super generic experiences. I’ve always enjoyed places like Aman resorts but don’t care much for St. Regis or Ritz.

Would you suggest staying a night in Todos Santos or near Flora Farms, then heading to Todos Santos for half a day? I’ve heard mixed reviews—some say you can get bored easily in Todos Santos, but I’d love your take on it.

I’m not sure about rental companies that deliver to the cruise terminal, but there are a few that do one-way rentals to La Paz. Maybe someone else here knows a good option?

Flora Farms is nice. It can feel a bit touristy, but the food and vibe are great. If you’re staying in an Airbnb nearby, it might feel a little remote unless you’re staying directly on the property.

Personally, I’m a big fan of Todos Santos. The town has a farm-to-table feel, and the area around it is beautiful. You can grab good food and drinks, check out the cool architecture, and relax on a stunning beach with dramatic waves. I can understand why some people might find it a bit slow, but if you stay longer, you’ll get a better feel for the place.

Based on what you said, I’d stick with Todos Santos. Either stay in the tented cabins at Villa Santa Cruz or the Hotel Todos Santos, and head to the Green Room for happy hour. It’ll be a great time for both you and your mom!

Thanks so much for the advice! I’m really leaning toward Todos Santos now. I’ll probably reach out with more questions as we finalize the plan.

Hey, do you have any recommendations for cooking classes or farm tours around the day we land? I’m planning to arrive at CSL around 1 PM and thought it’d be nice to do something like that before checking into Villa Santa Cruz.

Not a tour, but Agricole is a cool market on the way to Todos Santos where you can stock up on snacks for your cruise. They have some farm-grown products and other good stuff.

If you’re still looking for activities, I’ve heard of taco tours in Todos Santos. The hotel could probably help set that up. There’s also Paradero, a hotel nearby that offers farm tours and cooking classes, though I’m not sure if they’re available for non-guests. Might be worth checking out!
